To Be Determined
INSPIRATION
This is just a figure drawing from a collage I made. I decided to use the topic of unrealistic expectations for women. Women are expected to have a certain level of perfection. They're too short, too tall, too fat, too skinny, wear too much make-up, wear too little, show too much skin, show too little, wear too little accessories, wear too many accessories, they eat too much, eat too little, they're not supposed to wear glasses, they talk too much or too little, they're too submissive or too much of a fighter, all of this crap.
I find it unfair, and based this project around the issue.
Originally, I wanted to base the project around something I learned in life. There is nobody in this world you can't learn to love once you hear their story. I didn't even kind of know how to visualize that, so I decided to focus on a common problem that has caused self-esteem issues for many girls especially. Expectations. If only people would lower their expectations for men and women and everyone in general, this world wouldn't be as horrid. Living might be bearable. It's unfortunate that only the strong survive. I always hated that I only saw hunters and prey for so long, and decided to be a protector instead of a hunter. I was first the prey, then the hunter, before realizing how low they are. Nobody should have to suffer because other people put them down and make them suffer for being so weak. Unrealistic expectations, attacks, it's disgusting. These are such common issues, too.
In this world, humans believe they are at the top of the food chain. In the artificial city, yes, yes we are. In the real and true world, humans run to the city, afraid of being eaten alive. Oh, I thought we were at the top of the food chain? Why run from the forest and all natural landscapes if we're at the top, or are we not really at the top? Despite our egos, humans are, in fact, animals. It's this pride humans tend to have that cause issues. We have such big egos, yet so unsteady, so unsure of ourselves that we have to put someone else down to feel better. That's where the unrealistic expectations of one another come in. But who decided it had to be that way?
There's hunters and prey, sure. But what about protectors, healers, supporters? Why must we be possessed with fear and rage? Why can't we help one another so that nobody else suffers as we did? Why can't we heal one another? Why must we hunt one another? Why must we expect perfection from women and invincibility from men? Why can't we accept that we are all human and everyone needs to be protected at some point, man, woman, trans, etc? Why does it matter what we were born as? Why does it have to stay this way?
One of the many ideas I question all the time. It's a topic that inspires many of my personal drawings as well. Invisible scars caused by others, loss, neglect, abuse, indifference, hunters, prey, protectors, suicide, etc. After all, invisible scars hurt more than visible scars.
Unrealistic expectations unable to be met is one of the many ways invisible scars, and even some visible ones, tend to be caused. It's sad, depressing even. This topic is the focus of this project.
